Pharmaceutical Companies & Laboratories

Dry Ice is used to inhibit the growth or decline of some biological products. It safely contains samples for storage or during transport. It also acts as a stabilising agent for a variety of pharmaceutical products. The majority of pharmaceuticals companies use Dry Ice 9mm Pellets.

Airline Catering

The Airline industry use Dry Ice Slices for in-flight catering, mostly on long haul flights. The Dry Ice slabs are placed in food trolleys and stores, keeping the foods chilled or frozen until ready for use. The main advantages in using our product, is that the food is stored according to strict Health & Safety guidelines and once the Dry Ice has sublimated, only the packaging needs disposal of, unlike Gel Plates which must be returned to point of origin.

Industrial Cleaning & Technical Processes

Industrial Cleaning using Dry Ice involves using 3mm Pellets blasted at subsonic or supersonic speeds to remove surface contaminants. Upon impact the Dry Ice turns from solid into a harmless gas, leaving only the contaminant itself for disposal. The advantages of using Dry Ice cleanblasting for the customer are numerous; there is no secondary waste, it’s compact, completely portable, ideal for robotisation, safer for the environment, safer for employees, safer for end products, safer for equipment and no electrical requirements.

Chilled Food Distribution

Dry Ice Solid Blocks and Slices are placed in the back of the transport, depending on where the Dry Ice is placed, food can be kept either frozen or chilled. The huge advantage of using Dry Ice for this method of distribution means the need for refrigerated transport is eliminated and it is possible to transport Frozen, Chilled and Ambient temperature products in the one cargo hold. The Lidl group are successfully using this method throughout Europe to greatly reduce transport costs.

Food Processing

Meat processors use Dry Ice to keep the product temperature low and reduce spoilage while processing meat. This is used in industrial processing of ground meats and sausages. The baking industry use Dry Ice in mixing ingredients and retarding yeast growth until the required. As Dry Ice is bacteriostatic, food grade and residue free it is perfect for use in the food processing industry.

Universities & Research

Universities throughout Ireland use Dry Ice 9mm Pellets for various research programmes, maintaining experiments and samples at required stability and temperatures.

Hospitals and Clinics

Dry Ice is used to safely store or transport blood products and organs for donation, transplant or examination. Other medical samples can be stored without any disruption or loss of sample quality.

Chemical Industries

The low temperature of Dry Ice slows or stops some chemical reactions. Allowing for sensitive or volatile products to be stored and shipping safely and easily. It is also a neutralizing agent for alkalis.

Engineering and Shrink Fitting

Dry Ice will shrink metal to slide on sleeves, bushings or bearings. Adding Dry Ice to a 90% pure alcohol bath will create a cold liquid near -109.3°F which can be used like liquid nitrogen.

Rubber Moulding

Dry Ice will cool and shrink whatever it touches. Rubber parts are tumbled in a barrel with Dry Ice, making them brittle for easy flash removal. It is used in cold grinding of Plexiglas, PVC resins and vinyl's.

Freeze Branding & Agriculture

Dry Ice, usually Solid Blocks or Slices, is placed into a branding container, where methylated spirits is poured over the Dry Ice. Branding irons are then placed into this super cooled alcohol mixture. Upon removal the branding irons are pressed against the beasts hide, thus permanently applying the brand mark without damaging the hide.

Exports & Distribution

Using Dry Ice for Chilled or Frozen distribution eliminates the need for refrigerated transport. Polar Ice provides calculations on Dry Ice quantities required during transport of products based on time in transit, ambient temperatures, required product temperatures and internal dimensions of the product container. Dry Ice can be safely transported via any distribution method, provided the use of Dry Ice is declared.

Theatrical and Special effects

When Dry Ice is combined with hot water it will produce vigorous bubbling water and voluminous flowing fog. A theatre fog machine is generally a 30 to 55-gallon metal or plastic water barrel with a 110-volt or a 220-volt hot water heater to keep the water hot. Dry Ice is placed in a bucket with holes to allow hot water to enter. When the bucket is lowered into the hot water fog is instantly produced. The resulting water vapour fog is gently blown by a fan and directed to the desired area by an air duct tube. Fog stops whenever the bucket of Dry Ice is pulled out of the water. More modern fog machines pump heated water over a tray holding the Dry Ice.
