A family business, we’re proud to say we are the only dedicated dry ice provider in Ireland. While others may supply it now and again, it is our core business and providing you with a complete suite of dry ice options is what we do best.

Established by three brothers, Colm, Enda and Brendan Powell, Polar Ice started life in 1996 with two employees and a plan to develop and drive the dry ice market in Ireland. During its formative years, Polar Ice expanded the market by 500% and took on more staff as they grew to a talented team of nearly 15 full time employees and associates.

Joined by another Powell, Alison in 2002, Polar Ice took a strategic change of direction and began to concentrate fully on Dry Ice manufacturing. Based in their hometown of Portarlington, the operation moved to a new, purpose-built facility. By 2004, a state of the art CO2 liquefaction plant was completed, positioning Polar Ice as the industry leader and premium dry ice supplier in Ireland today.

A committed Dry Ice specialist

Further expansion in 2005 included establishing a depot in Dublin, which offered same-day delivery for the Dublin area. The following year saw a strategic partnership with IceTech Ireland who supply dry ice blasting and dry ice technology to the Irish market. With expansion into Northern Ireland and a new premises there, Polar Ice began incorporating new technology to offer a self-service facility to many customers. In 2011, Polar Ice and IceTech teamed up again to expand the market further south, opening a dry ice depot and office in Little Island, Co. Cork.

Industry awards arrived in the shape of the ‘Excellence Through People’ scheme and Polar Ice was a finalist in the Offaly Enterprise Awards in 2006, 2008, overall winner in 2010 and a finalist in the National Enterprise Awards 2010.
